'The Dulaan Project is a cooperative effort of Flagstaff International Relief Effort (FIRE), Mossy Cottage Knits, and the Kunzang Palyul Choling (KPC) Buddhist community of Sedona. The project seeks to inspire the generous spirit of the knitting community to help meet the urgent needs of Mongolia's impoverished people. Mongolia's winter is extreme; the capital city, Ulanbaatar, is the coldest capital in the world. It rarely gets above freezing on winter days, and can plunge to -40ΊF at night. To survive, many of the homeless live in the heating ducts below the nations cities. Warm, well-made clothing can allow a child to go to school or an adult to go to work; restore a sense of dignity; and, in some cases, literally save a life. (Quote from the website)

The Baby Pack Project is a small charitable project aimed at providing under-privileged mothers of newborn babies on the lower south coast of Kwa Zulu Natal, South Africa, with a pack of the most basic items needed for a new born baby. The Baby Pack Project came about in 2005 when local lady Gill Richardson, saw newborn babies leave Ntabeni clinic in Kwa Zulu Natal wrapped in newspaper because the mothers had nothing else to wrap them in
The items contained in the baby-packs are donated to the Baby Pack Project by supporters from as far away as Britain, Ireland, America, Canada, Spain and South Africa. These supporters work tirelessly knitting, crocheting & sewing babywear, cloth nappies, blankets etc and then post them to the Baby Bear Project in Kwa Zulu Natal. Everyone involved in, or associated with, the Baby Pack Project is voluntary and no-one gets paid. (Quote from the website)
This site provides simple patterns for you to knit and an address to send your finished items too.

Threads of Compassion is a charity that knits scarves for survivors of sexual assault or abuse. Anyone whose life has been affected by sexual assault or abuse is welcome to make and send a scarf. Whether scarves are done by survivors, or friends and family members of survivors, it does not matter, (scarves can also be made in honor of friends who were raped, family members who suffered sexual abuse, etc.).
The scarves do not have to be any specific size or color, but they ask that you try and make them at least 5 inches wide and around 65 inches long. Also the yarn used should be as soft as possible, so that the scarf can be held close without feeling rough to the skin. |
